Celebrating Mid Autumn Festival with Mooncakes
Celebrating Mid Autumn Festival with Mooncakes has a great significance. It is one of the most important festivals in the Chinese calendar. To be exact it occurs on the 15th day of eighth lunar month which often occurs in the months of September and October.
Traditionally mooncakes came in a few flavours like lotus seed paste, five assorted nuts and the red bean paste. However today in the modern era there are many flavours that get to be adored on this special festival. If we say Mid Autumn Festival has created an industry out of mooncakes that won’t be untrue. Along with unique flavours, there is also much attention paid to the packaging of mooncakes. Traditional square boxes have been replaced by unique silhouettes for gift packaging including a four tiered cylindrical shaped box as shown.
Moon Festivals are celebrated by families eating dinner together, and then going outdoors to appreciate the wondrous beauty of the full moon. Prayers and wishes are sent and poetry is also read. For family members or lovers who are not together, the Moon Festival is the perfect time to gaze at the moon and remember loved ones. Simultaneously gazing at the moon, even though the loved one is far away, makes families and lovers feel closer.
